This was the hotel I stayed in when I attended the Colorado Buffaloes and BYU Alamo Bowl Game in December 2024. The hotel was chosen for its proximity to the Alamodome and the Riverwalk. However, construction around the hotel made access challenging. Upon my initial interaction with the front desk, I found the service to be unsatisfactory. Typically, I wait to start recording for my video reviews, but on this occasion, I began immediately after stepping away from the desk. Here is the link to the video if you would like to see from the lobby to the hotel room: https://youtu.be/8tz6kEhLYwA.
The exterior aesthetics and interior decor, particularly the Christmas decorations, were appealing as I made my way to my room. The hotel has an on-site restaurant, and room service which allows you to order from a few nearby restaurants. The pizza from Fume which was excellent and a convenient choice given the long wait times at the Riverwalk. However, the cheesecake ordered from the Pub did not sit well with me.
The hotel has a unique history that we learned about during the Riverwalk Tour. It was built in less than a year using modular units, the hotel’s interior features a modern lobby and elevator area, while the rooms have a more traditional feel. There were no issues with the bed, and I woke up without back pain, which was positive. The coffee shop staff provided consistent, friendly service, while the front desk staff’s service varied. The valet team was efficient, and one employee, in particular, stood out for his helpfulness throughout our stay. Although not in an official leadership role, he appeared to be leading by example within the organization. We ended up moving rooms when we first arrived, and he was the person who brought us our new keys so we did not have to go to the front desk before shifting to our new room. Every time I saw him afterwards; he was helping someone in the facility. He helped everyone…his customer service was always on point and when I say I saw him everywhere he literally was everywhere. He was an employee who did not appear to be in an official leadership role, but he was clearly leading up and across the organization.
